100+ reading challenge....# 1

Sat up til after midnight last night finishing this book


It was actually the 2nd time I have started it. I can't remember what stopped me from finishing it the first time about a month ago. I'm really glad I finished it though. It got more and more engaging as it went. This book finished...I hate books that leave you hanging. This one doesn't. You got all the answers you were wondering about for each character. Donna is quite graphic in her descriptions of the concentration camps in Hong Kong that held Canadian soilders during WWII. Although not a true story the characters are fictional the situations and circumstances are. It also has a lovely message of acceptance of differences as one of the children is a young boy with Down Syndrome.

A great read. I also enjoyed Donna's first novel After River which I read in November.

{3rd Birthday} Octonauts party

It has been a week two weeks since Aden's Octonauts party and I think I have recovered enough to post about it. Special thanks to my sister for gabbing my camera and my MIL and SIL for their cameras, as I didn't take any all day! Aden is a massive Octonauts fan! So when he didn't go for my initial plan of a 'Monsters' Party ( too scary Mummy!) we decided on Octonauts. I did a lot of Internet searching and looking at a lot of Pintrest posts to gather all my ideas together.  There was lots of party food including Octonaut Cupcakes. Cake toppers from Ebay  And a Kwazii cake as requested by the birthday boy! I totally forgot to put on the Octopus I had for his hat!! We also had yellow/green/blue jelly cups with turtles in them and smarties cookies. As well as regular party food and hot finger food for the adults. Mummy wiping Aden's face before having cake photos! We had balloons, a birthday banner and streamers.

All you have to do is share a quilt you have made! I'm going to share this quilt.... from a pattern yes but I loved making it! Choosing the fabrics was fun...playing with colours mixing them up...changing my mind...I tried to be true to life but it ws hard with the bright fabrics... I had a border dilema that was fixed by some helpful friends! Progress pic... All the animals finished Of course it helps to love a quilt when your making it for a very special little girl! I'm keen to make this one again...just to play with the fabrics!!
