1283 Hexagons...and counting

Image
After seeing the massive hexagon quilt at the Quilt Fair I started thinking about my own...Started in March 2007 it is now lovingly refered to as 'The football quilt' as most of it has been constructed while watching the football on TV. 3 games a weekend makes for 6 hours of handstitching...well it used to be 6 hours...If Aden is about I can't stitch, watch him and watch the footy. So Friday nights are usually the better time, after Aden is in bed! Last weekend over Easter my little sister stayed with us and had a turn at stiching some hexagons too!! I still have heaps to go! I just love looking at the colours and remembering where each little piece of fabric came from...lots of them from my quilting buddies!

and counting!!! Some of you may remember this quilt...fondly refered to as 'the football quilt' as I sit and hand stitch in front of the TV for a few hours on Friday night and Sunday arvo... I have heaps of 'flowers' ready to stitch to the main piece of quilt I've got together...and heaps more to make!!

Thanks Emma...today when I got home there was a package waiting for me...I didn't notice it til after we got back from walking Jester...because of course DH was NOT excited by squishy mail and therefore didn't tell me straight away!!! While in the process of a new quilt Emma has kindly cut me 199 new fabric squares to make some more hexagons...!! They have made a lovely rainbow of colours and will definitely be put to good use.

Happy Birthday Helen

This wonderful wonderful lady had been a massive support to me, not only with my quilting but life in general. Her support and generosity go beyond an 'online' friendship. I'm really really hoping that next year we can meet for real! Happy Birthday Helen hope you have had a wonderful day. Speaking of Helen....I have used some of her fabric scraps to make 40 more Hexagons tonight....taking the tally to 1194

Red!!

The wonderfully talanted Adds has sent me some red in the mail today....watch out Hexagons here it comes!! They were so beautifully cut with love and care...thanks Adds!!! The one on the bottom is a little bigger than just a scrap for a hexagon....so as well as a few hexagons I think it will end up as something else....it is my favourite!!

Emma and Bee helped me out with some of their scraps to make some more Hexagons tonight...thanks girls...

Footy Season....

Image
The footy season has returned....and that also means the return of 'The Footy Quilt'...aka the hexagons!!! At the end of last season they were at a count of 1001 and looked like this.... ....after a little bit of off-season training the count is up too..... 1068 .... most of the off-season was spent putting it together in bits and pieces and and now it looks like this..... not a big difference...but lots of work!! I have tried to make one of the sides straight so I can start to see how big it is getting....it is layed out onour 6-seater dinning room table here....to give you some idea of how big it is. Hopefully with a few more months in front of the football it will get bigger and bigger!!

1001 and counting.....

I have finally cracked 4 digits...I haven't done them for a while ...other things got in the way...but while watching football this arvo and nursing my sore arm from knitting (you use your hands in a different way and now I have muscle soreness!!)...it was back to the hexagons...I've used some of the EB squares that just didn't look right in the quilt so never fear girls the fabric was still put to good use!!

903 and counting...

I've finally had some time to work on more hexagons....oranges and reds....cause I cut some of my raggedy edge blocks too small....opps!!

Hexagons

I'm loving my hexagons...as you can see from the photos...warm and toasty in front of the TV stitching...bliss!! I have since fixed the hole in the middle of the last photo...it is spread out on our 6 person dining table...so getting big now...I just sit and stare at it for minutes at a time...I love it!! DH thinks I'm crazy!!

873 and counting.....

My sewing room/study looks so bare without my machine on the desk....:( Hexagons still comming along....Think I might start some smaller ones now.....

Did 54 more hexagons tonights while the Dragons beat the Titans...means I'm one up in the footy tippingso far this weekend...there has only been one game...and I'm beating DH.... I really should be sewing more of them together....but I'm trying to get the balance right in the colours....need more purple and greens....and orange...will have to see if there is some left over from the log cabin blocks!!

550 and counting!!

Image
I've made 550 hexagons....after 3 games of football this weekend I was on a roll....I've sewn lots of them together and in the cold light of day (as they say) I will take some pictures of the ones I've put together so far. On another note.... The EB sewing groups Blog ring has been added to my blog...thanks Helen...I do lurk there alot and am amazed by the talent of these ladies...so thank you for letting me join and will try to get some cloths sewing done real soon...but unlike the others I have no beautiful children to sew for (yet!!) and therefore my cloths sewing is boring...work cloths...but feel free ladies to leave comments on my blog anyway it will be nice hearing from you!

I have made 229 hexagons so far...Here are some of them sewn together

Look what I started!!

The Birth of a hexagon quilt...it will all be hand sewen...I thinking I'll even hand quilt it....if I ever get that far...It took a few hours in front of the telly to produce this rather meager sample...I was going the do a pattern like the star in a previous post...but I like that fact that a scrappy quilt looks just that....scrappy!! I might change my mind thought as it developes. I have gone through most of my scrap bag finding the right sized bits to make these hexagons ( hexagons are 3 cms long on each side)...I couldn't believe how tiny some of the scraps were...still couldn't bring myself to throw them out thought!! I love the fact that each piece of material reminds me of one of my quilts...and therefore the lovely person that I made it for...it makes me want to make even more quilts!!!
