Blue and green should never be seen.....??

I am delighted, in fact tickled pink and loving the fact I can say 'see' to DH, that in this months Down Under Quilts there is an artile on blue and green quilts. After umming and arring for a while and deciding no, I really do want green borders on my blue quilt, I'm so pleased others can see the great colour combination too!! That said... I'm grrring cause I'm about 20 inches short to finish the final border...I went to the local quilt shop to get some and they close at 3pm....what the??? That's when I finish work...so I cant make it there till Thursday...and I was on such a roll!!

Tagged...again

I had been tagged by Helen before...I tried to ignore it...as I couldn't think of 7 things to write (still can't)... but now Natalie has tagged me too so I guess I will have to play along... • Start with 7 random facts/habits about yourself • People who are tagged have to write their 7 things on their blog • Then choose another 7 people to get tagged and list their names 1. I love my middle name and plan on calling my daughter it one day....lucky DH agrees 2. I've always wanted 6 kids...we'll have to wait and see...this one DH doesn't agree on!! 3. I love quilting but have only been doing it for 3 1/2 years...I'd love to make an art quilt one day...just don't know if I'm 'arty' enough...lol 4.....ummm I'm stuck I'll be back later 4. I don't like seafood cause I can't stand the smell of it...I think if I could get past the smell I might like it 5. I only iron when I'm in the mood...that said I iron everything...Therefore I ha...

I found just what I was looking for...the perfect green to finish this quilt...the lady at my local patchwork store was showing me all sorts of colours...but I found it...just what I had imagined in my head...I love it!! These pictures were taken before adding the last green border...same width as the other green border....now is it big enough?? I'm thinking about one more border....but what colour...oh no here we go again!!! Wow that's a lot of blogging in one weekend!!!

Image
I am really stuck on what colour to make the borders of this blue quilt...I can't find anything that works....this is the wrong green and pink but what about white....it's for an adult so that dirt factor doesn't really count....help someone please!!! I'm really not happy with these photos...at night in the bedroom with fluorescent lights! I'm thinking with the white I could get some blue variegated cotton to quilt it...does anyone know where I can get some from??

I've sat down straight away and just over an hour later I have 26 more hexagons to add to my count!! and another 22 waitng to be sewn...I must start putting them together....The box in now too full to hold them all!! Thanks Emma your a gem!!!

Yeah mail for me!!! I got the lastest copy of Patchwork and Quilting and have already found three quilts I like to try!! I also got some fabric strips for my log cabins!! Yellows...from Sandi Blues... from Helen Purples....from Dany And one more yeah for good meausre....we kicked butt at netball tonight...I don't think I have ever played so hard in my life!!

743 and counting....

Image
Did 54 more hexagons tonights while the Dragons beat the Titans...means I'm one up in the footy tippingso far this weekend...there has only been one game...and I'm beating DH.... I really should be sewing more of them together....but I'm trying to get the balance right in the colours....need more purple and greens....and orange...will have to see if there is some left over from the log cabin blocks!!

Yeah, Yeah and Boo!!

Image
Yeah's first.....My camera is fixed!! YEAH!!!! I picked it up from the post office this afternoon....and called in to the scrapbooking shop to get inspiration for my mum's wedding invitations...going back for a proper look tomorrow!! Yeah!! Emma's green material arrived today...now I have some more colours to add to my log cabins Boo...I think I may have royally stuffed up my log cabin blocks!!! I didn't really think them through....and have started some with cool colours and others with warm colours...so now they don't fit right in the 'diamond' pattern that I wanted to do...I think I may have to do this pattern (the way it is set out below, a three quarter diamond and then one block backwards)...cause I'm not unpicking them....or I could make heaps more for a second quilt??? Am I game enough for that??? I would have to make 30 more log cabin blocks??? Do I really want to do that???

Lucky!!

Had a really crap day at work again today....why can't people teach their kids some manners!!! Lucky I get to come home to these greatful creatures!!

Happy Mother's day

Image
"Happy Mother's Day" means more Than have a happy day. Within those words lie lots of things We never get to say. It means I love you first of all, Then thanks for all you do. It means you mean a lot to me, And that I honor you. But most of all, I guess it means That I am thinking of Your happiness on this, your day, With pleasure and with love This is what we cooked MIL for Breakfast.....yummmmm banana and honey on pancakes with maple syrup!!! YUMMMM

1 1/2 inch strips

Image
YEAH!! I have a camera...only for the weekend but still (MIL visiting for the weekend)...it lets me show you the strips I have cut for the 'Log Cabin' block swap. There is two 'sets' of orange strips here. One spread out to show you the colours and the other stacked (in the left of the photo). Sorry to those of you that would have liked the 'surprise' of getting unknow materials but this way we all know what we are doing! (well a better idea anyway) These are the other strips I have cut for the rest of my blocks....as you can see I need to cut more yellow and pink...and purple but I'm waiting till after the swap til I cut some more...that's the hexagons in the background and my quilt planning book...does anyone else have one of those....A book to write down all my ideas in...it is getting fuller everyday!! Here are two ideas for how I'm going to layout the blocks....DH likes the 'diamond'one better.

Quilt Weather

Block One - Strips were sewen onto the side where it needed to go and then trimmed to length using the edge of the last strip (or center) as a guide. Worked quick well and you would be able to chain piece quite easily. Block Two - Strips were cut to exact lengths (as above) and sewen in order to the block. When sewing t...

Log Cabin Instructions

Image
Thought I'd add some links here for how to make 'Log Cabin' blocks Log Cabin - Chain Piecing Method Easy Log Cabin Quilt - 5 part article Log Cabin - this one has a printable colouring in sheet so you can designs what it will look like. It also has some variations to the block. I like the variation with the different width strips...in pink and blue near the bottom. It aslo shows different layouts to create patterns...it doesn't show my favourite one...that makes 'stars' Log Cabin Crazy Quilt - No instructions for this one. It shows 'crazy' log cabin ie not straight pieces...and a different layout...making diamonds For the swap I was thinking warm (yellow, orange, pink) and cool (purple, blue, green) blocks with red centres....if we swap 1 1/2 inch strips....and then swap back some finished blocks...if we each choose a different layout pattern will will end up with very diferent quilts using the same blocks....what do you think Helen??? Sandi??? I...
