A whole lot of waste!

This is where we went today...Reusable Cloth Nappy Week Event Day! In exchange for a packet of plastic nappies you got a free MCN!! Bargin! Yes 1 packet of nappies cost less than 1 modern cloth nappy...but look at this.... 3000 nappies were donated to Backpacks 4 Aussie Kids to be used for kids going into foster care. These 3000 odd nappies are only about half the number of nappies the average 2-year-old will wear before they no longer need nappies! Just look at the pile! Soooooo much plastic! We collected 3,712 disposables from 108 people this morning. 19 had never used cloth before which is very exciting! From the FaceBook page I must admit I get lazy sometimes...I have and will use plastic nappies when the need arises but every little bit helps and it is good to know that Aden and I have not left that much plastic (and not to mention poo!) in landfil somewhere! These 30 nappies from the generous supporters will be going to one lucky winner...hope it is me!

Self Portrait

Image
Tinniegirl has put out the call for todays post in Blogtoberfest...Self Portrait!! EEEEKKKK!!!! Then Helen challenged me...can't back out now can I?? I took 22 photos...this was the last one! I've spent the day traveling into the city and back on a train (1hr+ each way) with a toddler and a pram, then I walked home from the station, 40 mins and the last 10 up a hill! I'm buggered!! There is sooo much wrong with this picture I don't even know where to start...maybe it is time to pay a little more attention to myself and my eating habbits! Don't forget about my little quilt giveaway ! Entries open til the end of the month!

Barnyard Birthday Party!

Image
Aden had a ball at Alannah's Barnyard Party. He was the first one in to the animal pen and almost the last one out! He fed goats, cuddled lambs, patted chickens and was very gentle with the Guinea pigs. I had been telling him there would be a duck (his favourite word!) but there was none...lucky he is too young to understand and wasn't too upset!! Eating cake with Cousin Annaleisa And here is the dress I made for the birthday girl! From Corrie's free dress pattern I made a size 1 for her petite little body...and tried it on Aden first as they are about the same size!

Wivenhoe Dam

Image
Wivenhoe Dam holds the water for South East Queensland and it is overflowing. The spillway has opened for the first time in almost 10 years. There were heaps of people out to have a look and we decided to join them on our way home this afternoon. There was a closer view point but it was even more crowed and Aden was sick of the car and wanted to go home!

Totally Inspired!!

Image
I was complaining the other night to Helen that I was totally un-inspired to even start a Doll quilt for the EB swap...the deadline is just around the corner. So tonight I had a little play with some charm swap squares from way back...I was just doing...not thinking and it was not working! So I sat and looked around the room at all the lovely quilts I have hanging there ...and then i think my brain exploded!! I found this fabric in my stash and got totally inspired!! Where do you find your inspiration?? Here is a sneak peek of my Doll Quilt for the EB swap! It is a little bright...but I'm hoping my swappee will like it!

Big Butt Baby Pants

Image
Another box of too small baby clothes have been packed away...mostly winter stuff as, despite the fact that it is raining today and has done so on and off for the last few weeks, the weather is warming up! So that left Aden with no pants or short sleeve shirts in his cupboard! I knew this was coming a few weeks ago so I went and bought him some size 1 shirts while on special. I bought a few shorts too but nothing seems to fit right...especially with his fat cloth-nappied bottom! He still fits a 0 around the waist but they are too small in crotch, Size 1 are too long in the legs (although he seems to have shot up this week and I fear that may not be the case for much longer!!) Big Butt Baby Pants to the rescue! I've been eyeing off this pattern for a while but when I saw Rae's latest blog post and how easy they looked I knew the time had come! And because it is an instant download pattern there is no waiting! So I paid, printed it off and then had to decided what size to make....
