{June} Holidays!

Our family holiday this year took us to our capital city, Canberra and then a few hours south-west to the Mt Selwyn Snowfields....to see the snow!

Aden LOVES going on planes so he was super excited and counting down the days. He kept asking how many school days left!

We always fit in as much as we can when visiting a new place and this holiday was no exception.

After getting off the plane we went to Black Mountain Tower for lunch.

It gives a great view of the city. But an ice cold wind was blowing on the lookout platform and Aden was not happy!

We then went to The Australian War Memorial.

The wall of red poppies to remember our fallen heroes is really quite moving...just to see so many names and knowing what they died for us.

I wasn't sure how Aden would go as there is lots you can't touch and lots of reading at the displays, but Aden enjoyed the kids section where he got to play in a submarine and fly a helicopter.

Hubby could have easily spent a few more hours there looking around, but Aden had had enough so we went to check-in to the hotel.
We stayed at Rydges Capital Hill, in Canberra, just a few hundred metre from Parliment House.
After a big day of traveling and sightseeing we decided to order room service for dinner. It wasn't the best room service food we've eaten but the room was large, clean and comfortable. Aden's fold out trundle bed was made and ready when we arrived. Buffet breakfast (included in our room price) the next morning was nice with lots of food on offer.

Before heading off to the snow we spent a few hours at the Questacon Science Centre. I think the adults had just as much fun as Aden did! There was heaps of stuff to do even for little kids. Aden's attention span was very lacking as he bounced from activity to activity. And he wasn't into the science behind each activity as much as I would have liked....but at not quite 3 it was to be expected.

They have a reasonable admission price (Under 4's free) and a nice cafe where we had lunch before getting on the road.

We stopped off at the shop for some Groceries, and then on to Adaminaby to the holiday house for 3 nights. It was ok for the few nights were were there but if we went back we'd look into other accommodation. The house was very dated and old. There was one heater to try and warm the whole house (which it took a long time to do). And the lounge chairs were not comfy! When you are tired and sore from a long day of skiing you just want to flop into a comfy chair and veg right?

Anyway when we arrived we asked the locals where they would recommend for dinner, either the local pub or bowls club, but we had an hour to kill first so we drove the 10 mins to the edge of Lake Eucumbene. Here we were really starting to feel the temperatures drop and so after a quick look round, we jumped back in the car.

The lake is great for Trout fishing all year round and in the centre of Adaminaby is this huge Trout! It is just outside the Snowgoose Hotel, the local pub, where we had dinner each night. Great food, good prices, a lovely open fire and pencils, paper table cloths to draw on, toys and entertainment for Aden! It was a win for everyone!

The next morning we headed up the mountain.

Wasn't the greatest weather for skiing and no snow falls while we were there but we all had a great time. Aden loved snowball fights the best!

Then we finished off with a few more days in Canberra.

We went to the Mint and made our own $1 coins.

We found a dinosaur museum (which I think started Aden dinosaur craze!) that we all liked and Aden loved! He enjoyed getting to touch some of the (plastic, not real) fossils, having his photo taken inside a dinosaur egg and running on the grass with the dinosaurs 'chasing' him! He wasn't so fond of the animatronic dinosaurs, that moved and 'roared' but they were great! There was a 'dinosaur hunt' that even at 3 he was able to particiapte in and there were harder levels for older kids.

Aden colouring in his dinosaur hunt sheet...being watched over...lol

We had a great time in Canberra and can't wait to go again in a few years!
